Proposed budget sent to both houses of Convention

The Episcopal Church’s Joint Standing Committee on Program, Budget and Finance on July 10 proposed a balanced budget for the mission and ministry of the church in the 2013-2015 triennium to a joint session of the General Convention’s House of Bishops and House of Deputies. The budget now requires the concurrence of both houses.  The Revenue is based on a 19% asking, and for the first time the budget is structured around the Five Marks of Mission of the Anglican Communion as directed by the 76th General Convention.  Those marks are:

  • To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom.
  • To teach, baptize and nurture new believers.
  • To respond to human need by loving service.
  • To seek to transform unjust structures of society.
  • To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth.

In addition, the Proposed Budget encompasses the administration and governance of the church.  And so the non-Governmental Expenses are also identified as Canonical, Corporate or Program.

The budget, including any amendments to which the two houses must agree, goes into effect Jan. 1.  The proposed budget is now available online.  Click here.
