Bishops pass Denominational Health Plan

Resolution B026 passed with one amendment in the House of Bishops the afternoon of Monday, July 9. B026, Implementation of the Denominational Health Plan, requires all churches to participate in the denominational health plan through the Episcopal Church Medical Trust by January 1, 2013. The resolution also says there is to be parity in the health care offered between clergy and full-time lay employees (30 or more hours per week) by December 31, 2015, which is an extension from the original resolution. Bishop of Wyoming, the Rt. Rev. John Smylie, called for an amendment to line 19, adding a timetable to how long the Church Pension Fund has to “explore alternative strategies to arrive at a more equitable sharing of health care premium costs, including alternative means of achieving such equity.” After this clause, the date of December 31, 2015, was inserted. The resolution will now be sent to the House of Deputies.
